 Outer Sidewall

The OV-II  inspection  display to the  left shows a defect on a  bottle  being  detected three times in  the  multiple image acquisitions that  occur as the bottle  rolls past the outer  sidewall  inspection  area.   Unlike systems that  use  belts or other  means  to rotate the containers,  the  Omnivision II  uses the natural rotation of the  containers that  results from  the staggering of  the containers  when the guide rails widen.  The starwheel provides stability within the  inspection zone to  assure quality images and proper tracking of faulty containers to the reject area.

The guide rails widen in the inspection station for a distance of 24 inches causing the containers to  stagger and rotate within  this inspection  zone.  A  high speed camera captures  up to  12 images  of each  container  (depending on container width) as   it rotates through the inspection zone capturing  12 distinct front view  images  of each container (roughly every 30 degrees) assuring tha t all faulty containers are  rejected with a minimum of false rejects.
